5 Signs Your Website Needs Work

Tips & Tricks

The great thing about websites is once they are up and running, you have a really efficient marketing tool for yourself – or do you?

Yes, having a website is one step in the right direction, but that will only get you so far. So how do you know if your website is performing to the best of its ability? How do you know what to do to maximize the effects of this marketing tool?

Here are 5 signs your website might need a little TLC, and we’ll tell you how to fix them:

1. You aren’t getting enough leads or traffic.

Telling people you have a website and giving them the URL is one way to get it out there, but that method isn’t going to get you the traffic and business you are looking for. Creating sharable content on your Social Media accounts can help direct people to your website. You can also reach out to search engines (Google, Yahoo, AOL…) and suggest your website be added. Part of this process involves making sure your website is full of keywords (phrases or words that make it possible for to find your website when they search those terms). Another suggestion would be to invest in Google Adwords or other online advertisements with incentives for consumers to click through to your site.

2. You don’t give people a reason to come back.

If consumers don’t have a reason to visit your site again, why would they? You need to give them a reason, remind them that you are there, and that there is something valuable to them on your site. Simply updating photos and content every couple of months is a great start. Offering promotions and incentives (coupons and promo codes), will also give people a reason to check back with you. And lastly, but probably most important…a BLOG! A blog shows consumers you are “there”, active, current, and involved. This is also great for keyword searches, and your consumers can get more information from you this way. Most certainly a reason for people to keep coming back to your site.

3. Your site design is outdated.

Like clothes, music, and cars…website designs become outdated, relatively quickly these days. Take a look around, do some online searching for “modern website designs” and you’ll get the picture. You want to keep up with the times and you want your clients to know you do.

4. Your site is a hot mess.

What’s worse than visiting a website and not being able to find what you are looking at? We’ve all been frustrated with this issue at some point in our web searches. Consumers expect to find what they need, before they have time to blink. It is imperative, whether you have a small site or a large site, that its contents are easy to read and follow. You’ve probably looked at your own website so many times, it might be hard for you to judge if it is structured well. Our suggestion is to ask a couple of friends to go through your website, even check in with your clients and ask for their feedback. And of course, you can always count on us to help you with that too.

5. You are avoiding social media.

Okay so many of us cringe at the thought of having to keep up with wall posts, tweets, and posting a bagillion photos online everyday. But, if we told you it would positively drive traffic to your site, would you consider? Social media is exactly that: digital "socializing" to get your message out there. Consider it free advertising for yourself and your website, and we definitely recommend doing it. And guess what? We can get you set up so you can blog through your website and it will automatically post to your social media accounts too!

Take a look at your site and consider these five tips. No worries though, we can help you sort it out and get you on the right path…just let us know and we’d be glad to help!
